Balak Skin began as an idea I carried with me for years.
Long before the brand existed, I knew I wanted to create skincare that was natural, native, and genuinely effective. Something that cared for the skin without compromising its integrity. It started with a desire to better understand my own skin and slowly grew into something much deeper.
One of my younger sisters is a traditional Indigenous dancer, often wearing ochre on her face as part of ceremony and performance. While powerful and beautiful, repeated use of ochre can sit deep within the pores, leading to congestion and breakouts that conventional skincare struggled to address.
That experience shaped everything.
I began formulating with a clear intention: to create an acne line so effective it could gently draw out even ochre from deep within the skin, without stripping, irritating, or disrupting the skin barrier.
Balak Skin is built on patience, purpose, and respect. Each formula is developed slowly and made in small batches, using native botanicals and natural ingredients chosen for their ability to restore balance, not overwhelm the skin.
Through ongoing formulation and trial, Balak Skin has grown organically. Expanding beyond its initial purpose, to care for more skin types and address a wider range of skin concerns, without compromising our values.
Balak Skin would like to extend a special thanks to the Yugambeh and Darumbal peoples, upon whose lands this business has been forged. Our products are crafted in artisanal batches on Yugambeh land and then dispatched to Darumbal land for retail and storage. We acknowledge and honor the care and stewardship of these lands for over 60,000 years, and the many other First Nations peoples whose lands provide the ingredients we respectfully harvest. Our products would not be as rich, impactful, or meaningful without the knowledge, traditions, and care of the peoples who came before us.
